PUBLIC SPEAKING
I speak to community organizations, colleges and faith-based groups about long distance hiking and/or humanitarian themes. As a former instructor at all educational levels my speaking toolbox includes storytelling, audience participation, photography, original music (recorded or performed), and multimedia presentations.
Public Speaking Topics:
- BELIEVE IN HUMANITY
(Based on the presentations I gave on the American Discovery Trail journey) - THE POWER OF KINDNESS ACROSS AMERICA
(Based on the American Discovery Trail Journey) - SYSTEMS OUT OF BALANCE: The Dire Consequences of Misinformation
(Based on my book, Systems out of Balance) - THE AMERICAN DREAM: Community, Liberty, Diversity
(Featuring the song “American Dream” by my band The Bards of Balance) - THE FIVE FORGOTTEN TRUTHS: Who You Really Are
(Based on a book in development)
To arrange for a public speaking engagement for the Hiking Humanitarian, please put “Speaking” in the subject line and contact: hiking.humanitarian@gmail.com
WRITINGS AND MUSIC
My writings and music feature the following humanitarian themes.
- The social attributes of natural versus civilized humanity.
- The virtues of kindness, community, liberty and balance.
- The five forgotten truths about our natural social condition.
- The “what,” “why,” and “how” we are misinformed about our natural humanity.
To commission a humanitarian song or to arrange for a gig by either the Hiking Humanitarian or my band, The Bards of Balance, please put “Music” in the subject line and contact: hiking.humanitarian@gmail.com
To contract for a humanitarian article put “Writings” in the subject line instead.
HIKING AND POTLUCKS
“Walk with me for humanity.” Contact us if you want to join us for a walk during our journey, or if your community group wants to host a potluck supper for when we come through. Check out our schedule for when we are coming through your area.
To arrange for hiking or a potluck, please put “Hike” in the subject line and contact: hiking.humanitarian@gmail.com
INTERVIEWS
I welcome interviews by the media about humanitarian topics. Here are some potential media questions:
- How to get involved with Housing, Health and Hunger in your community.
- How modern society gets in the way of being social.
- Why civic involvement has declined to critically low levels.
- The systemic problems behind our Housing, Health and Hunger and issues
- The good news about human nature.
To arrange for an interview, please put “Print,” “Broadcast,” or “Web” Media in the Subject line and contact: hiking.humanitarian@gmail.com

Kirk,
Looking forward to living your adventure with you through this site.
Good luck and stay safe.
Terri
May the good Lord bless your journey for humanity….what a wonderful thing you are doing. I didn’t see you in Carson City or hear of any community effort, but we are all behind you and wish you well on your trip in the days ahead.
Where do we contribute to your effort?
Thank you Catherine. We mainly collaborate with Lions Clubs to give a “Believe in Humanity” presentation but we were unable to connect with Carson City’s Lions Club. Beside the need for increasing civic/community involvement, we also raise awareness for the critical issues of Housing, Health and Hunger. You can donate to any of those causes via the Donate! page of this web site.
Thanks again for your support.

Thanks so much for coming to campus and sharing your words, music, and journey with us. Great job incorporating the constitution…Senator Byrd would be proud!
Thanks, Brett, it was a pleasure doing the presentation today, and the food was tasty!
Greetings Hiking Humanitarians,
Reading Jeff Whitman, our UCC Conferendce Minister’s article about your journey and purpose and your schedule hiking on the Katy Trail, we would like to offer a stop over and/or arrange for a group of folks in Hermann, MO to hear your message. Hermann is just across the Mo River from McKittrick on the Katy trail. Your posted schedule indicate you will be at Bluffton (10 miles West of McKittrick) 12/21 and Marthasville (25 miles East of McKittrick) 12/23. We can arrange for over night stay, meals and/or gather some folks to meet with you while in our area.

Greetings Jack,
Thank you for your gracious offer. We would like to drop in on the 21st for certain. We have a support person, Ky Byrne, who often goes ahead to set up speaking engagements, find places for us to stay when we pass through towns, help us to “slack pack” in populated areas, etc. It would work out well for her and us if she could arrive on the 20th with a place to park and plug in her self-contained mini-camper. We could arrive on the 20th as well if you so desire, we never protest having a warm church floor to sleep on, but we are prepared to be camping out along the Katy Trail that particular evening. I’ll have Ky call you to firm things up.
